Marshall Hall Trust

The Marshall Hall Trust (Charity number: 254906) was originally set up under the Will of the distinguished barrister Sir Edward Marshall Hall (1858 – 1927), a member of the Inner Temple, to help needy and deserving members of the Inn.

The Trust gives assistance by way of loan or grant according to the circumstances. Applicants for assistance must be members of the Inn.

The Trust’s principal focus is on giving assistance to pupils who need additional financial support to complete their pupillage and recently qualified practitioners who have encountered hardship in practice.

The Trust may also assist students who would not otherwise be able to complete their vocational course for unexpected reasons beyond their control. However, it is very unlikely that the Trust will assist a student who lacked an adequate financial plan before embarking on the course. Separately to the Trust, the Inn offers a scheme for scholarships and bursaries for students intending to commence the vocational course, which has more substantial funds available to it.

The Trust can only help an applicant who is a member of the Inner Temple. For more information or to apply for funding please contact the Secretary.

Please note that all individuals requesting assistance are required to complete a detailed application form and are generally required to meet with one or more trustees to discuss their application. Save in exceptional circumstances, the process, from interview to a recommendation to a decision, takes several weeks and may take longer.
